The Admissions Office accepts fee waiver requests submitted from guidance counselors using the official NACAC Application Fee Waiver form. Guidance counselors may also submit a written letter or email, indicating that the fee would present a financial hardship for the student (in lieu of the official NACAC form) on behalf of the student requesting a fee waiver. How do I request a fee waiver?
On the Georgetown Application, a student can indicate he or she is eligible for an application fee waiver. When the application is submitted, the student and his or her counselor will be emailed more information about the application fee waiver process. A student may also submit a completed College Board fee waiver form in lieu of the NACAC fee waiver form.
Does the fee waiver form have to be completed by a guidance counselor?
You are welcome to submit the College Board or the NACAC fee waiver forms, which should be completed by your guidance counselor. In lieu of the official forms, your counselor may write a brief fee waiver request letter explaining that the application fee would present a hardship to you and your family. If another school administrator (e.g., principal or registrar) is able to verify your family’s financial need, then you may ask that person to submit this form on your behalf. If you have been out of high school for several years and are no longer in contact with your high school guidance counselor, you may have another third party person (e.g., clergyman) complete the fee waiver request form on your behalf or send a brief statement regarding your current financial hardships to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How can I (or my counselor) submit the application fee waiver request?
Many counselors will fill out the form and then scan and email a copy to email@example.com. If you or your parents/legal guardians have access to a scanner, you may send it that way as well once your counselor has completed the form and returned it to you. Some students will also go to a local library or grocery store and use a scanner there. A counselor can also send an email directly to firstname.lastname@example.org (per the instructions above) if a scanner is not available. A hard copy can also be sent via postal mail if the aforementioned options are not available.
Can International applicants request a fee waiver?
Yes. International students should follow the same process detailed above.
Can transfer students request a fee waiver?
Yes. Transfer students may also submit fee waiver requests as per the instructions above. Transfer students may ask any academic advisor or official administrator associated with their current institution to complete the form for them. Some transfer students prefer to use the NACAC Transfer Application Fee Waiver form. Georgetown will accept either.
If I am submitting a fee waiver request, when should I send in my application to Georgetown?
The application deadline is the same for all applicants, irrespective of whether they are requesting a fee waiver; however, we encourage all applicants to submit the Georgetown Application as soon as they decide to apply because it allows us to open your admissions file and initiate the alumni interview assignment process.
If I have already paid the application fee, can I still request a fee waiver?
Unfortunately, we will not offer refunds for application fees. If you think you may be eligible for a fee waiver, please indicate that on the Georgetown Application at the time of submission.
I am not sure if I am eligible for a fee waiver. What should I do?

I indicated that I was eligible for a fee waiver on the Georgetown Application, but now I don’t think I am eligible. Is there a way to reverse what I indicated on the application and pay the application fee?
If you no longer believe you will be eligible for an application fee waiver and would prefer to pay the application fee, you (or a parent) may send a check or money order for $75.00 payable in U.S. currency to Georgetown University. Unfortunately, we cannot accept electronic payment submissions once a student has selected the fee waiver option and submitted an application. You should contact your counselor to let him or her know that the fee waiver request form no longer needs to be submitted on your behalf. Please be sure to put either your full name and date of birth or your Social Security number on the check or money order and send to the above mailing address.
