A Flexible Approach to Testing Requirements:

Georgetown is implementing a flexible approach to our standardized testing requirements for applicants to the Class of 2025. Georgetown values the information provided by standardized testing and will continue to consider test scores as part of our holistic admissions review process. However, we understand that some students may be prevented from taking either the SAT or ACT due to challenges brought about by COVID-19. For this reason, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be flexible and fully consider applications from students who encounter difficulties completing standardized tests due to the pandemic.

As a Jesuit institution, Georgetown is dedicated to building a community in diversity and pursuit of social justice. We are guided by the ideal of cura personalis (care of the whole person) and intrinsic to our mission is a need-blind, meet full-need admissions policy. Providing access to Georgetown is at the core of our approach to the admissions process. In light of the current environment, we continue to be focused on keeping Georgetown within reach of all prospective Hoyas, especially those with limited or curtailed access to standardized testing.  In the event the cost of submitting test scores is financial hardship, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will work directly with you and your college counselor to find a cost-free solution.

SAT and ACT:

Georgetown accepts both the SAT and ACT. Please note that we do not participate in Score Choice and require submission of an applicant’s entire testing record, if one is available. Students who are not able to submit scores from either test due to the COVID-19 pandemic are welcome to apply for admission to the Class of 2025 without the tests.

SAT Subject Tests:

The College Board has discontinued the Subject Tests in the United States. We continue to recommend that students who have A.P. (Advanced Placement) scores submit them to supplement their admissions file.

Georgetown does not participate in Score Choice, so any Subject Test scores for exams already taken will be part of the complete testing record submitted from the College Board. We remain firmly committed to a comprehensive and holistic review of all applications, and test scores are considered in their appropriate context.

We will still accept scores from international Subject Test sittings, which will continue until June 2021. We recognize that international students often cannot take or should not take the Subject Tests. The lack of Subject Tests will not be a negative factor.

English language Proficiency Testing:

Georgetown recommends submission of English Language Proficiency test scores if your first language is not English and you attend a school where English is not the medium of instruction. Georgetown will consider scores from the Duolingo English Test (DET), IELTS, or TOEFL, including the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. Please note that applicants fitting the description outlined above applying without SAT or ACT scores are strongly encouraged to submit English Language Proficiency test results.
