Application Requirements and Forms

Students can apply to Georgetown using either the Georgetown Application or the Common Application. You can find links to both applications on our Application Portal page.

Georgetown encourages students to submit their application as soon as it is complete to begin the alumni interview process. Early submission allows interviews to be assigned sooner, giving applicants greater flexibility and more time to coordinate with their alumni interviewer. Because alumni interviews may be scheduled before the writing supplement is submitted, students are encouraged to submit the initial portion of their application as soon as possible. The writing supplement will then need to be submitted by the selected application deadline. 

Required High School-submitted materials include:

• High school transcript
• School profile
• Counselor letter of recommendation

Due by February 10

Transcript submitted by your high school which includes grades from the first trimester or semester of the final year of high school.

• If midyear grades are not available by February 10, they should be submitted as soon as they are available.

All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation: one from a school counselor and one from a teacher. Georgetown also welcomes a second (optional) teacher recommendation. Teacher recommendations should come from instructors who have taught the student in a core academic subject (English, math, science, social studies/history, or world language), preferably within the last two years of high school.

• Applicants to the McDonough School of Business should have at least one recommendation from a math or social studies teacher.
• Applicants to science, health, or mathematics programs should have at least one recommendation from a science or math teacher.
• Applicants to language programs should have at least one recommendation from a world language teacher.

Georgetown requires submission of either SAT or ACT scores as part of the application process.

• For students taking the ACT, we highly recommend taking the Science section, especially if planning to major in the sciences.

For students that have taken AP exams, we highly recommend submission of these scores as part of the application process. Georgetown requires submission of official standardized test scores.

• SAT or AP: Scores should be submitted through the College Board. Georgetown’s CEEB Code is 5244.
• ACT: Scores should be submitted directly through the ACT website. Georgetown’s ACT Code is 0668.

Georgetown requires submission of two short essays and two long essays:

Short Essay 1: Briefly discuss the significance to you of the school or summer activity in which you have been most involved. (250 Words)

Short Essay 2: In all our lives, we interact with people who hold different viewpoints than our own. Describe such an event you experienced. What did you learn from the experience? (250 Words)

Essay 1: As Georgetown is a diverse community, the Admissions Committee would like to know more about you in your own words. Please submit a brief personal or creative essay which you feel best describes you and reflects on your personal background and individual experiences, skills, and talents. (650 Words)

Essay 2: School Specific Essay Prompt (500 Words)

• For Applicants to the College of Arts & Sciences: Founded in 1789, the Georgetown College of Arts & Sciences is committed to the Jesuit traditions of an integrated education and of productive research in the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and fine arts. Describe your interest in studying in the College of Arts & Sciences. Applicants interested in the sciences, mathematics, or languages are encouraged to make specific reference to their choice of major.
• For Applicants to the McCourt School of Public Policy: For nearly 50 years, Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy has equipped leaders and changemakers with the interdisciplinary skills to address local, national and global policy problems. Undergraduate public policy students at Georgetown will have the unique opportunity to live and study on two campuses, spending their first two years immersed on the Hilltop, before completing the second half of their time at Georgetown on the Capitol Campus, immersed in the policy world. Describe your primary motivations for studying public policy at Georgetown University and dedicating your undergraduate studies toward a future related to public service.
• Applicants to the Earth Commons Institute: Through this joint program between the College of Arts & Sciences and the Earth Commons Institute, you’ll explore theories and practical skills in the classroom, in the field, and around the world, and put it all together to make a difference. Describe your primary motivations for studying environment and sustainability at Georgetown University to effect positive change in the world.
• For Applicants to the Berkley School of Nursing: Georgetown University’s Berkley School of Nursing is committed to the formation of ethical, empathetic, and transformational nursing leaders. Describe the factors that have influenced your interest in studying Nursing at Georgetown University.
• Applicants to the School of Health: Georgetown University’s School of Health was founded to advance the health and well-being of people locally, nationally, and globally through innovative research, the delivery of interdisciplinary education, and transformative engagement of communities. Describe the factors that influenced your interest in studying health care at Georgetown University, specifically addressing your intended related major: Global Health, Health Care Management & Policy, or Human Science.
• For Applicants to the Walsh School of Foreign Service: Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service was founded more than a century ago to prepare generations of leaders with the foundational skills to address global issues. Describe your primary motivations for studying international affairs at Georgetown University and dedicating your undergraduate studies toward a future in global service.
• For Applicants to the McDonough School of Business: Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business provides graduates with essential global, ethical, analytical, financial, and diverse perspectives on the economies of our nation and the world. Describe your primary motivations for studying business at Georgetown University.

• Alumni interviews are an important part of the first-year application process at Georgetown.
• The interview presents an opportunity for applicants to share their story, expand upon information captured in other portions of the application, and highlight any key information for the Admissions Committee.
• Topics that may come up during the interview include academic interests, extracurricular activities, summer experiences, family background, future plans, and exposure to Georgetown. 
• Students should use the interview to learn more about Georgetown and the Georgetown community from the perspective of an alumnus. An evaluative report will be submitted and become part of the student’s admissions file following the interview.
• Georgetown University aims to make the alumni interview available for every applicant. Interviews are assigned as applications are received. Students are required to complete their interview when assigned. Some internationally-based students may not be assigned an interview due to availability. This will have no negative effect on their admissions process.

• Georgetown offers only need-based financial aid, and will meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for all US Citizens and Permanent Residents.
• To apply for financial aid, students must submit both the FAFSA (for US Citizens/Permanent Residents) and the CSS Profile.
