Georgetown is committed to providing need-based financial aid to eligible students in an effort to ensure that attending the University is an affordable and accessible opportunity.
Financial Aid Policies
Georgetown University meets the full financial need of all eligible undergraduate students. Eligible students include all US Citizens and Permanent Residents. Applying for financial aid at Georgetown does not negatively impact a student’s chance of admission.
As financial aid at Georgetown is based on need, we do not offer any academic or merit-based scholarships. We meet the full need of eligible students through a combination of grants, scholarships, employment, and federal student loans. In order to be considered for financial aid, students must submit both the FAFSA and CSS Financial Aid Profile.
The FAFSA and CSS Financial Aid Profile must be submitted to Georgetown by February 1.
Any questions regarding financial aid applications should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
International Financial Aid
Admitted students who have requested financial aid, and who are not US Citizens or Permanent Residents, will be considered for a limited number of need-based scholarship awards. To be considered for international student financial aid, the applicant will need to indicate their intent to apply for financial aid on the Georgetown Application or the Common Application. Students should then submit the CSS Financial Aid Profile in order to apply for aid.
Application Fee Waiver
Georgetown will accept fee waiver requests from all applicants for whom the application fee presents a significant financial burden, including first year, transfer, and international applicants.
On the Georgetown Application, a fee waiver can be requested when submitting the first section of the application. An email will then be sent to the student’s school counselor to confirm the student’s eligibility for a fee waiver. The school counselor can then upload the NACAC Fee Waiver form through the Secondary School Report or email it to feewaiver@georgetown.edu.
- If you have been out of high school for several years and are no longer in contact with your high school guidance counselor, you may have another third party person (e.g., clergyman) complete the fee waiver request form on your behalf or send a brief statement regarding your current financial hardships to feewaiver@georgetown.edu.
- Transfer students may ask any academic advisor or official administrator associated with their current institution to complete the form for them.
On the Common Application, Georgetown will accept the Common App Fee Waiver. If you do not qualify for the Common App Fee Waiver but believe that paying the application fee would present a financial burden, there will be a question in Georgetown’s portion of the Common Application to request a fee waiver. An email will then be sent to the student’s school counselor to confirm the student’s eligibility. The school counselor can then upload the NACAC Fee Waiver form through the Secondary School Report or email it to feewaiver@georgetown.edu.
