International Applicants

As a global university, Georgetown welcomes international students to become part of a vibrant and diverse community of learners. We welcome global perspectives that challenge our assumptions and enrich our campus through international dialogue and kinship.

  • International applicants to Georgetown follow the same application process as students based in the United States. General information on necessary materials for an application can be found on our Application Requirements page.
  • The application deadlines for all applicants are November 1 for Early Action, and January 1 for Regular Decision.
  • Applicants are reviewed within the context of the school and curriculum in which they are engaged. The applicant’s citizenship has no impact on the application review process.

  • All applicants must submit academic credentials from their entire secondary school experience. For example, students applying to enter in the Fall of 2027 should submit documents starting from the 2023-2024 academic year. Students should, therefore, plan to submit four years of academic credentials.
  • Applicants with credentials in a language other than English should provide Georgetown with English-language translations of their original transcripts. Translation may be done by your high school, and all translated documents must be accompanied by the original documents.
  • If you will graduate from an educational system that includes final examinations such as A-Levels, International Baccalaureate, or the French Baccalaureat, you will need to submit projected and/or final results as part of the application process. These results must be submitted to our office directly from your secondary school (and eventually from the testing agency if enrolling at Georgetown).

  • Georgetown University requires submission of SAT and/or ACT scores as part of our holistic application review process for all candidates, including internationally based students.
    • In exceptional cases where students are physically unable to access an SAT or ACT test center in their area, we can accept applications without SAT or ACT scores. In these cases, students will be asked to provide an explanation of these circumstances in a form available through our application.
  • Georgetown recommends, but does not require, results from an English language proficiency test for students who attend a school where English is not the language of instruction.
    • Georgetown accepts results from the DET (Duolingo English Test), IELTS, or TOEFL® (PBT, iBT® and IPT® Plus versions), to fulfill this recommendation.

  • Admitted students who have requested financial aid and are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents will be considered for a very limited number of need-based scholarships. To be considered for one of these scholarships, the student/applicant will need to indicate their intent to apply for financial aid on the Application for Undergraduate Admission and should submit a CSS/Financial Aid Profile through the College Board.   • Whether admitted either under our Early Action or Regular Decision review periods, all candidates for financial aid will be notified about their eligibility for aid, their financial aid awards or about missing documents by the first week of April.

  • All non-US citizens who plan to study under F-1 or J-1 status at Georgetown must indicate their requested status on the confirmation of enrollment form. In addition, students who need a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 immigration document from Georgetown must apply for the immigration document by following the instructions .
  • The complete process of obtaining the Georgetown Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 and applying for the F-1 or J-1 visa is not immediate, and students are strongly encouraged to carefully review the instructions and begin the process as soon as possible. For questions regarding immigration requirements or the document issuance process, please contact the Office of Global Services (OGS) at newinternational@georgetown.edu . Students who will study under a status other than F-1 or J-1 do not have any reporting requirement and do not need to contact OGS.
