First Year Applicants

Applicants are required to apply directly to one of Georgetown’s six undergraduate schools. You can explore our full list of programs on our Undergraduate Schools and Majors page.

Georgetown offers two application deadlines:

• Early Action: November 1
• Regular Decision: January 1

Georgetown’s Early Action policy is non-binding, allowing admitted students to freely choose among their college options until the May 1 decision deadline. Early Action applicants to Georgetown must abide by the following guidelines:

• Early Action applicants to Georgetown may not apply to any binding Early Decision programs.
• Early Action applicants to Georgetown are welcome to apply to other non-binding Early Action programs.

• Students can apply to Georgetown using either the Georgetown Application or the Common Application.
• Georgetown encourages students to submit their application as soon as it is complete. Early submission allows interviews to be assigned sooner, giving applicants greater flexibility and more time to coordinate with their alumni interviewer. Because alumni interviews may be scheduled before the writing supplement is submitted, students are encouraged to submit their application once the initial portion is complete.
• The writing supplement will then need to be submitted by the selected application deadline. 

Alumni Interviews are a key part of Georgetown’s application process, allowing us to learn more about students’ high school experiences, college goals, and interest in the University. Alumni interviews begin in September each year, and continue throughout the application cycle.

• For students applying with the Georgetown Application, interviews can be assigned after submission of Part 1 of the Application.
• For students applying with the Common Application, interviews can be assigned after submission of Georgetown’s initial portion of the Common Application (not including the writing supplement).

Georgetown requires two short essays and two long essays. You can find a full list of our essay questions on our Application Requirements and Forms page.

• For students applying through the Georgetown Application, all four essays will be submitted through the Georgetown Application Supplement.
• For students applying through the Common Application, all four essays will be available in your Writing Supplement.
  • Georgetown does not require students to submit the Common Application Personal Statement as part of our review process. Students will be asked to answer a Georgetown-specific personal statement question (in line with the Georgetown Application). If a student believes that their Common App Personal Statement would fit this prompt, they are welcome to use it to answer that essay.

Georgetown requires submission of either SAT or ACT scores as part of the application process.

• For students taking the ACT, we highly recommend taking the Science section, especially if planning to major in the sciences.

For students that have taken AP exams, we highly recommend submission of these scores as part of the application process.

Georgetown requires submission of official standardized test scores.

• SAT or AP: Scores should be submitted through the College Board. Georgetown’s CEEB Code is 5244.
• ACT: Scores should be submitted directly through the ACT website. Georgetown’s ACT Code is 0668.

We hope you are able to convey your talents and extracurricular activities in your application. However, those with an exemplary talent in the performing arts that they wish to pursue on campus are able to submit an additional supplement to their application. All performing arts materials are reviewed by the Department of Performing Arts and therefore we cannot confirm receipt.
