Letters of Recommendation

How many letters of recommendation are accepted?

Georgetown requires one counselor and one teacher recommendation letter. You are also welcome to have an optional second teacher recommendation letter submitted as part of your application. Specific guidelines are provided in the “Counselor and Teacher Recommendations” section of Application Requirements and Forms webpage.

Are there specific teachers who should be writing my recommendation letters?

Teacher recommendations should come from instructors who have taught the student in a core academic subject (English, math, science, social studies/history, or world language), preferably within the last two years of high school.

Applicants to the McDonough School of Business should have at least one recommendation from a math or social studies teacher.

Applicants to science, health, or mathematics programs should have at least one recommendation from a science or math teacher.

Applicants to language programs should have at least one recommendation from a world language teacher.
